“Why I Chose Hult For My Master’s Degree”

“Go with the Choice That Scares You the Most, because that’s the one that will require the most of you.” – Caroline Myss

This is the quote that defined my search for the next step in my future. My current path featured a career trajectory that had a bright future, but it wasn’t my passion. So I researched the best transitional opportunity to launch my inner spark. I compared opportunities between several one-year programs, including LBS’s Master’s in Management, IE’s Master’s in Business, Fordham’s Master’s of Global Management, and Thunderbird’s Master’s program in Arizona. In the end, I chose Hult for three key reasons

The Difference Between Education & Experience

Rotational Study to Three Continents

First, I find that many business schools claim to provide an international business education, but very few can give you an international business experience. The opportunity to rotate to three different continents had the highest point of appeal for me. There’s a difference between education and experience. Education is taught, and experience is lived. I want that more than anything, so I chose Hult. The opportunities that come with such a rotational opportunity are endless, including the platform needed to “get an inside look at the world’s fastest-growing economies and examine international business practices close-up.”

A Unique Curriculum Structure

8 Months of Academic Study & 4 Months of Direct Application

Another reason why I chose Hult was its curriculum structure of 8 months of academic study and 4 months of direct application. No other program provides students the opportunity to apply skills during student tenure as Hult does. Aside from the Leap Method framework of learning, I was intrigued by Hult’s Action Project that required students to “compete with one another to solve an innovation or growth issue for a range of leading global companies, non-profits, or start-up enterprises. At other institutions, students apply their skills post-graduation or during the summer of a two-year study regimen. At Hult, you are given one year to do it all.

The Opportunity to Make A Difference in the World

Hult Prize & Social Entrepreneurship

Finally, the top reason for my decision to attend Hult was to make a difference. When you grow up in a part of the world that is synonymous with poverty, you start to feel a certain affinity to it. My upbringing in Haiti fueled a lot of my passions today—education, international exposure, and business. I believe that education provides opportunities for advancement, international exposure leads to enlightened understanding, and business could truly solve the problems of the world. With that state of mind, I wanted a program that could help me channel my passions into something bigger than myself. That’s when I learned about the Hult Prize and its contribution to social entrepreneurship. When I read the“creating the next wave of entrepreneurs,” where 10,000 business students from around the world compete to solve society’s biggest problems—I thought, wow, I’ve found my platform to make a difference

“Some people look at things the way they are and ask, ‘Why?’ I dream of things that never were and ask, ‘Why not?’” – Robert Francis

The next steps after Hult is a couple of years with a non-profit or the leap of faith at a startup venture. I do hope to attain an MBA at a top-tier institution down the road to culminate my studies in business and solidify lasting business relationships. For now, I’m focused on a year of dynamic change, promise, and opportunity. I’m glad I took the chance on Hult.
